The pick of the prices this weekend....

The pick of the prices this weekend….

There’s a nice race over 10f at Sandown tomorrow in the shape of the Betbright Recall Handicap (3.35)….

A field of 13 goers to post - including some nice types. Not least the William Haggas trained Across Dubai.

He produced a couple of nice efforts on turf earlier this term before being sent into a G3 at Goodwood last time out. He had it all to do at the weights that day and fell short of requirements – finishing last of the 5 runners.

Back down at handicap level tomorrow he can regain momentum. And that’s what the market expectation amounts too. He’s been backed into favouritism at 4s and 9/2. As such, he’s not a horse for this column….

Silver Ghost is another one that’s been progressing nicely up the scale. He’s won his last three races – the last victory achieved off a mark of 83.

After his last win – over tomorrow’s course and distance – trainer Eve Johnson Houghton remarked that things were getting more difficult for him. So, a 10lb hike in the weights is going to be something of an issue for him tomorrow in amongst these better types….

We’ll get to my selections for tomorrow’s race in a moment. First a word on the action elsewhere around the country tomorrow….

  • Good races elsewhere this weekend….

It’s not a major week for big races but there are some good races to shoot at nevertheless….

Beverley has its day in the sunshine tomorrow with the Bullet Sprint Stakes over the uphill 5f strip. 11 runners got post and I’m siding with a real live-wire at a tasty price….

At Chester, there’s a nice handicap for a decent pot over the turning 7f. I’m with a well-drawn horse the market is underestimating at the prices….

  • The pick of the prices….

David Menuisier’s THUNDERING BLUE at 8s is my idea of the answer in the Sandown race….

He’s put together two wins on the bounce and the last one on Newmarket’s July course was comfortable enough.

That win came off a mark of 83, the handicapper has raised him just 4lbs to 87 and that ought not be enough to put the stopper in the 4yo’s bottle….

The form looks good with the 3rd that day subsequently placing off 97 and the 4th coming out again at York and winning a decent handicap off 97. The 87 Thundering Blue runs off tomorrow looks potentially lenient.

That Newmarket race was run on good to soft ground and afterwards Menuisier made the point that he thought his charge would be a better horse on better ground.

It’s good to soft and good in places at Sandown today. But with today and tomorrow forecast to be dry, there’s a good chance he’ll get a surface with a bit more bounce. And, if his handler is correct in his assertions, that factor will be of assistance to him.

It’s not the biggest price we’ll ever shoot for in this column, but in the context of the race and the market, it’s fair enough. I’ll be backing him win only.

  • Up at Chester….

CURLEW RIVER threw in a clunker at York last time but seems over-priced at 20s for tomorrow’s Chester Stakes (2.10)….

The time before she won in ready fashion at Brighton – following up on a win at Leicester. At York, she was relatively well backed on her new mark of 95, but on the day she found he was unable to dominate the field on soft ground and fell away….

Fair enough. But Chester is a different type of track altogether – one that might play better to her hand. The twists and turns slow things down and that might well enable this progressive type to bounce back under Richard Kingscote.

She’s not ideally drawn in stall 9. But the trip of almost 2-miles means there’s time to overcome that and if the horse is given her own way, it is not an insurmountable berth – as previous renewals illustrate.

At the price, I think she’s a reasonable each-way bet. She wouldn’t be the first Johnson horse to bounce back and win after getting well-beaten the time before.

  • To recap….

At Sandown in the Betbright Recall Handicap (3.35)….

THUNDERING BLUE @ 8s (Generally)

At Chester in the Chester Stakes (2.10)

CURLEW RIVER @ 20s each-way (Generally)

That’s all from me this week. Enjoy your weekend.

P.S. Keep an eye on your email box tomorrow. I’ve been having a look at an opportunity you can take advantage of to make some quick ready cash – at no risk. People report making £100s a month. And I can see how they are doing it. More tomorrow….
