BEAUPORT is big in the market at prices ranging from 18s to 22s for tomorrow Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter (3.00)….
Things obviously didn’t go right for him at Warwick in the Classic Chase last time out….
…. jockey Jordan Nailor reported that he was never travelling that day….
But he was reasonably prominent in the betting for that assignment….
…. and whatever was ailing him….
…. he’s had time to recover….
The time before that at Sandown in the London National he’d gone very close to winning….
…. and he proved that he stays a marathon trip on testing ground….
He’s totally unexposed at these longer distances….
…. and on a mark of 140 there’s surely a big chance that he’s well-handicapped with progression to come….
He’s 8lb below his hurdling mark….
…. and 8lb below his opening chase mark….
He’s an interesting contender at a big price….
SUPREMELY WEST at the general 10s is the bet for the bet365 Handicap Hurdle at Uttoxeter (2.25)….
He produced a career best performance last time out at Chepstow….
…. on his first go at the 3-mile trip….
… staying on strong in the closing stages to finish 2.5 lengths behind the winner….
…. but 7 lengths ahead of the third-placed horse….
It was a peculiar run….
…. given that he was pretty much detached at one-point….
…. and left himself way too much to do in the closing stages….
I’m not quite sure what all that was about….
…. but the training team of Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole are putting first-time blinkers on tomorrow….
…. in what I imagine is a bid to focus his concentration….
He really did finish with a flourish at Chepstow….
…. the staying trip suits….
…. he’s unexposed….
…. testing ground doesn’t appear to be a problem based on that last effort….
…. and he can take another step-forward tomorrow – especially if the headgear has the desired effect….
