It’s the last day of the jumps season at Sandown tomorrow….
…. and the battle for the Trainers Championship – still technically undecided – adds a bit of spice to the narrative of the occasion….
For me that’s a sideshow….
…. I don’t really much care who wins….
…. I just want good racing….
…. and a bit of quality betting action….
I’m only interested in the one race tomorrow though….
…. but it’s the big one….
…. the last big handicap chase of the season – the valuable and prestigious bet365 Gold Cup….
…. and it’s a cracking renewal with a maximum field of 20 going to post….
The action really heats up again next week with the Guineas meeting at Newmarket – Friday through Sunday….
…. where I’ll be targeting all the big handicaps, the 2000 Guineas and the 1000 Guineas….
The good races are always worth waiting for….
-----
He was described as a ‘film star….’
…. and “the best horse in the sale….”
…. when connections bought him for £210k at the Tattersalls Cheltenham January Sale in 2022….
His trainer described him like this: “…. he’s one of the priciest horses we've bought but he's worth way more than they paid for him….”
…. and another time – while the horse was still running in bumpers – he told reporters this: “…. we bought him as a Gold Cup horse and that's what we're going for….”
…. before comparing him favourably to Imperial Commander – the 2010 Gold Cup winner….
Even if trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies is only half right about WEVEALLBEENCAUGHT….
…. the 7yo simply has to be a very well handicapped horse on a mark of 132 for tomorrow’s bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown (3.35)….
…. and the general 16s about him is a nice price….
I fancied him – and put him up – last time out in the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival….
…. where he ran a fair race but got bogged down in the heavy ground – finishing 6/21 and beaten 35-lengths….
I don’t think that was his true showing and he’s an underestimated proposition at the prices tomorrow….
He’s all about stamina and I think tomorrow’s trip should be within his compass….
He’ll have to prove he handles the track but – with the exception of race favourite Kitty’s Light – so will every other participant….
The going is good – with the bits of rain forecast before racing set to keep some moisture in the ground….
…. and he shouldn’t have any excuses on that score….
I think connections expected him to take a big step forward last time….
…. it didn’t happen on a testing surface….
…. but – off a nice break – he can run a big one tomorrow….
The pick of the prices….To recap on my bet for tomorrow…. In the 3.35 @ Sandown….
e/w terms = Sky Bet pay 1/5 the odds on 7 places. Livescore pay 1/5 the odds on 6 places. It’s 1/5 on 5 places generally…. Advised prices are correct at the point of publication – but prices are subject to fluctuation. Shop around – you may find better quotes and terms than advised…. |
That’s all for today….
I’ll be back after the weekend….
