The pick of the prices on Day 1 at Newmarket….

This week’s target races….

In ATC today….

…. I swing the bat in the big handicap on Day 1 of the July meeting at Newmarket….

…. the Bet Boost At bet365 Handicap at 3.00….

…. and my pick of the prices is PRINCE OF INDIA at 12s….

That’s the summary….

…. you’ll find all my reasoning below – as per usual….

Oh…. and if you’re looking for the standout place terms on offer – you’ll find them in the Bet Box below….

Read on….

-----

The Bet Boost At bet365 Handicap at 3.00 offers punters a bit of a test on Day 1 at Newmarket’s July meeting….

…. with eighteen 3yos – plenty of them unexposed – heading to post for a blast up the 6f strip….

PRINCE OF INDIA is the one I like at the prices – up at the general 12s with a bit of 14s still about this morning….

When last seen at Leicester at the end of May – on his first crack at the 6f trip – he was beaten just a length by Hucklesbrook….

The winner went on to land the MacMillan at York in impressive style (this column was on at a price)….

…. and reopposes tomorrow having gone up the scale to the tune of 15lb – compared to Prince Of India’s 3lb rise….

Further back that day at Leicester were Santa Savana, Crest Of Distinction, and Arabian Sun….

…. all subsequent winners….

…. with the first two named also running tomorrow – on 3lb worse terms….

Perhaps Prince Of India just lacked a little pace that day at Leicester….

…. but he was doing his best work late-on – fairly blasting home from the rear of the field inside the final half-furlong….

…. and it could well be – he stays 7f – that this stiffer test over 6f at Newmarket suits better than Leicester….

Bottom line: I think he’s well-handicapped, I like the adjustment to a stiffer track, and the price is there….

Now, just to recap….

The pick of the prices….

To recap on my bets….

In the 3.00 @ Newmarket….

  • Pick of the prices – PRINCE OF INDIA (12s generally)

e/w terms = Sky Bet pay 6 places. It’s 5 places generally….

Advised prices are correct at the point of publication – but subject to fluctuation. Shop around – you may find better quotes and terms than advised….

-----

That’s all for today….

I’ll be back tomorrow with my picks for the handicap action on Friday….

Stay tuned….
