The pick of the prices on Day 1 at York….

This week’s target races….

In ATC today….

…. I swing the bat in all the big handicaps on Day 1 at York….

I’m on TREFOR in the 1.50 – up at 11s….

…. I’m on TERRORISE at 11s in the 4.10….

…. and I’m on FLUORESCENCE at 10s in the 4.45….

That’s the summary….

I like TREFOR at the general 11s for the Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pool Handicap (1.50)….

I like the step back to the extended 5f – I reckon it could be the perfect trip for him….

…. last time in a decent race at Windsor he didn’t quite see out the full 6f and got overhauled late by a track specialist….

Nevertheless, he still had the in-form Badri in arrears and posted a career best on the RPR scale….

…. and – for my money – there’s more to come over a little shorter off a mark of 93….

I like where he’s drawn in stall 7. The low numbers generally have the advantage on the straight track at York….

…. and where Trefor is situated he might well find himself on the shoulder of the typical York arrowhead – which is the perfect place to be….

Brian Ellison’s TERRORISE goes into the Sky Bet Stayers Handicap (4.10) off an effective mark of 79 (a pound out of the weights)….

…. and it’s fair to say that he’s never done anything of note off any mark higher than 71….

…. but he’s totally unexposed at this kind of trip and last time – over course and distance (his first go at 2m+ on turf) – he won with some authority and pulled away readily – looking a different horse….

That was a C4 handicap and this clearly requires more….

…. but he deserves his opportunity, and I reckon he’s open to all sorts of progression now that he’s finally racing over trips that play to his stamina…

…. because he was getting outpaced at shorter trips….

The performance at York last time was a clear career best, the third horse home did his bit for the form by wining next time out and Terrorise is getting a tonne of weight form the big boys – carrying just 8-2….

Ben Robinson – who rode him that last time – can’t do that weight and Hollie Doyle comes in for the ride….

That appointment might amount to simple happenstance – but there might also be a degree of thought behind it….

…. because Doyle is the only rider in the top 20 of the jockeys championship standings who does that weight as a matter of course….

…. meaning Ellison has bagged himself the best jockey available for the job….

I think the 11s is a nice price….

FLUORESCENCE won with more in hand than the winning distance suggests last time at Redcar….

…. and at the general 10s she’s my bet for the RE-Incentive, It Pays To Buy Irish Fillies' Handicap (4.45)….

She’s still learning her trade – for sure – but that was a clear career-best performance, she’s only going to improve, and there’s still more to come off her mark of 90….

Back in May she wasn’t so far behind Tropical Island at Ripon – and might have been closer still had she not dwelt at the start….

That one is a Ripon specialist, was much more experienced, and was clearly well handicapped – having subsequently risen to a mark of 98 in the rankings….

At Southwell in July, she had Brosay in arrears – up to 91 after last week’s comfortable win at Windsor….

Bottom line: there’s more to come from this lightly raced 3yo filly and she can take a big step forward tomorrow under Callum Rodriguez who rides the 5f strip at York well….
