My pick in the Thyestes….

In ATC today….

…. I bring you my best picks in Thursday afternoon’s Thyestes at Gowran Park (3.30)….

I’m on JORDANS – up at 12s….

That’s the summary….

…. you’ll find all my reasoning below – as per usual….

Oh…. and if you’re looking for the standout place terms on offer – you’ll find them in the Bet Box below….

Read on….

-----

I’m backing JORDANS at the 12s for tomorrow’s Thyestes at Gowran Park (3.30)….

He’s only been seen twice this term – both times over hurdles….

…. and what’s going on there is open to interpretation….

It could be that having risen to a mark of 150 as a novice over fences last term….

…. and with the 7yo rated 17lb inferior over timber….

…. that connections want to capitalise on that lag….

If that is/was the case, they haven’t been very ambitious in terms of the races they’ve targeted….

I suppose the last one was a Pertemps qualifier….

…. and if it was your intention to run in the Grand National in April (I’m speculating now)….

…. a good spin in the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival in March is a perfectly reasonable and tested plan….

…. and it might well be the plan for the Spring….

But – for me – the two hurdle runs at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown in November and December indicate that Joseph O’Brien believes his horse is on a chase mark worth protecting….

…. and if you’re protecting a mark – you wait for the right pot (the big pot) to come along before you show your hand….

I think tomorrow is a plan in its own right….

This big race is another big race dominated by the battalions trained by Willie Mullins and Gordon Ellliot – they have eleven runners between them….

O’Brien – on the other hand – throws just the one dart….

…. but I’m not bothered about that – not in the slightest….

O’Brien is a proven top-race target trainer who only needs one dart….

…. he’s the precision sharpshooter rather than one of the guys blasting away with the old sawn-off….

…. and – if I’m right – a fully-prepped Jordans will be turning out tomorrow for a proper go at this….

That last run at Leopardstown – where he was staying on well in the late stages – will have put him spot-on in terms of fitness….

…. and when you go back and look at his races over fences you’ll see he’s got some nice form in the book….

…. against quality operators like Impaire Et Passe, Jagwar & Caldwell Potter….

Looking at those races and at what those horses have done since, it’s perfectly reasonable to suggest that Jordans is still well-treated off 150….

…. and – if I’m right – O’Brien is the man to execute the plan, capitalise on the mark, and land the money….

I think the 12s is a nice price….

Now, just to recap….

The pick of the prices….

To recap on my bets….

In the 3.30 @ Gowran Park….

  • Pick of the prices – JORDANS (12s generally)

e/w terms = Sky & Paddy pay 6 places. It’s 5 places generally….

Advised prices are correct at the point of publication – but subject to fluctuation. Shop around – you may find better quotes and terms than advised….

That’s all for today….

I’ll be back with more tomorrow….
