A well handicapped filly in the book on Friday….

…. I bring you my best picks in the handicaps on ITV on Friday….

I’m on TONY MONTANA in the 2.55 at York – up at 6s….

…. and I’m on AL DURRY in the 2.55 at York – up at 17/2 & 8s….

…. the Support Macmillan – York – 2.55....

TONY MONTANA at the general 6s isn’t a particularly imaginative pick for this….

…. but when nothing jumps out as ‘live’ at a price the next best thing is to be pragmatic….

…. and there’s a lot to like about this 6yo whose consistency means he never really gets much respite from the official handicapper….

He was second in this last term off the same mark – all but winning but getting nabbed on the line….

…. this is very much his time of year for earning a few quid….

…. and I like the trial run he produced in the Spring Mile at Newbury on his first run for new trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy….

Tony Montana isn’t a miler and I see that race as a primer for this….

…. but he still ran well – finishing 6/24 and beaten 3l….

…. and he hit the line well….

I reckon that run will have put him spot-on for this assignment….

…. he’s drawn nicely in stall 5….

…. we know he handles the track….

…. and David Egan gets a good tune out of him….

There’s a lot to like….

…. the Titan Wealth – Newbury – 2.40....

AL DURRY at the general 17/2 and 8s is well worth a bet on turf debut in this….

She only went up 4lb to 84 for her win at Wolverhampton in March – when stepped up in trip to the extended 9f….

Perhaps the fact that she only won a half-length from the fast-finishing second horse devalued the performance in the eyes of the official handicapper….

…. but the narrow winning distance doesn’t tell the full story….

She had a good look around when in front turning for home….

…. she ran a super-slow penultimate furlong – idling quite a bit….

…. before knuckling down and finding plenty when challenged – holding the runner-up pretty comfortably at the post when it all boiled down….

She’s clearly still learning….

…. and when you consider she was plenty keen early doors….

…. she’s won that race despite doing as much as she could to get herself beaten….

There’s loads of improvement in her and I reckon she could be plenty ahead of her current mark….
