“…. a pick at York on Friday….”

>>>>> Put this one in your tracker….

In ATC today….

…. I bring you my best pick in the handicaps at York on Friday….

I’m on URBAN GLIMPSE in the 4.10 – up at 11s ….

That’s the summary….

…. you’ll find all my reasoning below – as per usual….

Oh…. and if you’re looking for the standout place terms on offer – you’ll find them in the Bet Box below….

Read on….

-----

…. the World’s Gone Football – York – 4.10....

This is a decent race – an aperitif ahead of the Saturday action – and I want to be on URBAN GLIMPSE at the 12s & 11s….

…. the 4yo is trainer Andrew Balding’s only runner at the track tomorrow….

…. and I reckon he’s potentially well-handicapped based on some decent form logged last term against progressive handicappers….

He was only a couple of lengths behind Sing Us A Song at Sandown off 83 – and that one’s risen 12lb subsequently….

.... he had Munsif – up 6lb since – in behind at York off 85….

…. and in a hot race at Newmarket, he was in the thick of it with Kings Charter (up 12lb since) and Marhaba Ghaiyyath (up 6lb since)….

…. and even his 6-length defeat in an egg-and-spoon race at Beverley last time out can be marked up on the basis that he was conceding plenty of weight to a very well-handicapped winner….

I reckon he’s very much in business off his current mark of 84 – if they can turn the key with him….

The bet is not without its risks….

…. Urban Glimpse has been slow away from the stalls on several occasions….

…. and first-time cheekpieces are no doubt being tried as a remedy to that ailment….

Andrew Balding’s record with this equipment first-time over the last decade reads 19/132 at 14.4%....

…. that figure could be better or it could be worse – but do bear in mind that backing all qualifiers produced a 32 point betting profit to on-the-nose level stakes….

But there are no guarantees and my hope is that the headgear doesn’t have the opposite effect to that intended….

We want Urban Glimpse to leave the stalls on time and settle into the race….

…. what we don’t want is for the headgear to light him up like a paranoid gazelle so that he over races in the early stages of the contest – we don’t want him overrevved from the inside stall because that would be a disaster….

What I do like is the continued use of P J McDonald in the saddle….

…. he’s very much in-form right now with a 35% strike rate over the last fortnight – so he should be feeling good….

…. he knows York better (and has ridden more winners at the track over the last five years) than all the jockeys in opposition tomorrow….

…. and he’s getting down to his buckle-end riding weight to take the gig – one of just two rides tomorrow (and the other looks like a proper spare)….

All things together, I like the case at the price….

Not all the books are up with prices right now – it’s not an ITV race….

…. but you can get the price with William Hill, Sky Bet, Paddy Power, Betfair Sportsbook, Bet MGM & Virgin Bet….

…. and I think most of the other firms will be around the 10s to 12s mark when they do get out of bed….

Now, just to recap….

The pick of the prices….

To recap on my bets….

In the 4.10 @ York….

  • Pick of the prices – URBAN GLIMPSE (11s generally)

e/w terms = It’s 5 places generally….

Advised prices are correct at the point of publication – but subject to fluctuation. Shop around – you may find better quotes and terms than advised….

That’s all for today….

I’ll be back with more tomorrow….
