The pick of the Saturday handicap prices….

In ATC today….

…. I bring you my best picks in the handicaps on ITV….

I’m on DARKNESS in the 2.00 at Goodwood – up at 12s….

…. and I’m on STEM at 14s in the 2.15 at Sandown….

That’s the summary….

…. the Every Saturday Money Back – Goodwood – 2.00....

DARKNESS may be getting on a bit now – but he’s a nice price for this tomorrow at the general 12s (there’s still a bit of 14s about)….

…. not least because he’s dropped into the 80s after a pretty unimpressive sequence of performances this term….

But last time at Goodwood he gave definite notice that the tide is about to turn – making up tonnes of ground late on from out the back in the Golden Mile….

He won twice last year – once at Thirsk off tomorrow’s mark of 87 and then he took this race off 88 on similar ground that he’s forecast to get tomorrow….

…. he probably owes connections a few quid this year and tomorrow represents a cast-iron opportunity to reimburse them….

He’s drawn out widest of all in stall 15 but that won’t be an issue because the plan will be to drop him out and come late – just like he did last year under tomorrow’s jockey….

He’s won five handicaps off 91, 89, 88, 87 & 84 – and on a track he likes he’s weighted to add another to that list tomorrow….

…. the Zyn Frontrunner Finish – Sandown – 2.15....

I’m going to take the 14s about STEM for this one – because I think the price is simply too big….

I’m assuming that the market is taking last month’s 33l defeat in the Shergar Cup literally….

…. but that would be a mistake because the 4yo’s saddle slipped backwards that afternoon – shortly after leaving the stalls – and the rider was unable to assist the horse in-running….

He’d seen a bit of money prior to the off – in a race worth more to the winner than tomorrow’s assignment….

…. and the time before that Stem had won over tomorrow’s trip at Sandown off 87 – and he’s only 2lb ahead of the mark he won off that afternoon….

We’re very much approaching his time of year – he’s got three career wins in September….

…. and he could well outrun his big quote tomorrow under Pat Dobbs….
