…. I bring you my best picks in the Saturday handicaps on ITV….

I’m on STATION X in the 2.20 at Doncaster – up at 14s….

…. and I’m on RIVER KING at 12s in the 4.15 at Doncaster….

That’s the summary….

One feature of this year’s Portland at Doncaster (2.20) is that not too many entrants turn out on a roll….

…. STATION X is one horse that is….

…. and he could well outrun the 14s about him in the market this morning….

He’s been in decent form this term….

…. winning his share of races….

…. logging the progress in increments rather than big steps….

And we know he’s likely to remain in good heart – it was only a month back when he registered his fifth career success….

He’s up to a career high mark of 89 for this one….

…. but he’s still only 12lb higher than when first launched into handicaps off 77 in 2024….

…. it’s only now that trainer Bryan Smart opts to target this horse at a bit of proper money….

…. and it wouldn’t be the first time he’s been involved with a slow-burning older sprinter….

Station X runs well at the track….

…. softer ground is no issue….

…. and he starts in the high half of the draw – where the winner has come from many more times than not across the last 25-years….

Horses soon get forgotten…. and it’s a good thing too…. because sometimes it means you can get on them at bigger prices than would otherwise be the case….

Richard Hannon’s RIVER KING hasn’t run since Royal Ascot….

…. but he’s worth chancing at the 12s for tomorrow’s Pertemps Network at Doncaster (4.15)….

…. because he gave a good impression of himself that last day – finishing 5/22 having cut out a lot of the running from a disadvantaged part of the track….

He looked every inch a horse that can win a big handicap pot off his current mark….

…. at his best he’s right in the mix….

…. and he’s up at a nice price….
