The contrarian word on Day 4 at Goodwood….

Andrew Balding’s SOUTH SEAS was a big eyecatcher last time out at Sandown and can deliver on the promise of that performance at Goodwood tomorrow at 3.00 in the Unibet Golden Mile Handicap....

At Sandown the 4yo was well-back in the field and didn’t get a clear run when he made his move under Oisin Murphy inside the final quarter mile....

But he found plenty late on in proceedings and made up a tonne of ground inside the final furlong – without having any chance of catching the leaders....

He’d run well in two earlier appearances at Chester – his first two since being gelded – despite damaging his chances at the start by missing the break.

He flew home late again in the second of those appearances....

He’s obviously not entirely straightforward and he likes to be held-up off the pace – so he will need things to fall right for him....

But, if or when that happens, he’s advertised his ability, he looks like he’s running into form now, and the 11s and 10s available generally this morning represents a fair price about him....

The Contrarian Bet Box….

To recap on where my contrarian money will be going tomorrow afternoon….

In the Unibet Golden Mile Handicap (3.00 @ Goodwood).

That is my take on where the value lies – but you will no doubt have your own ideas and that’s exactly as it should be.

  • The last word….

That’s all from me for today.

Win, lose or draw – enjoy the racing....

I’ll be back tomorrow with my contrarian take on Saturday’s action at Goodwood....

Until then. Stay tuned.
