The contrarian perspective this weekend….

It is going to be on the soft side at York tomorrow....

That will suit LORD OBERON in the JCB Handicap (2.25) – and I’ll be backing Karl Burke’s 4yo at the general 14s....

They were talking in terms of him being a Listed horse at the back end of last year when he won a decent 7f handicap at Doncaster on soft ground....

He mis-fired first-time-out this term at Haydock. But he produced a much more encouraging performance last week at the same venue over 6f....

Another step forward off a mark of 95 tomorrow will see him in the mix....

The ground will help him more than most. And the step back up to 7f is another plus....

In the Pavers Foundation Catherine Memorial Sprint Handicap (3.35), I’ll be backing DAVE DEXTER at this morning’s general 16s....

He hasn’t really kicked on this year following a gelding procedure....

But the ground is right for him and I like the step back up to 6f....

His first two runs of the season were over the minimum 5f trip. He improved for the first run to the second. But it is tomorrow’s extra furlong that could produce a real step-forward....

We know the track suits – and that’s another key box ticked....

Last October, the horse produced a nice performance in a Listed-class race over tomorrow’s trip and on ground with plenty of cut....

Tomorrow is a different day and a different race. But course-form is significant at York. And it is a plus to be on a horse who has shown he can act at the place....

The Contrarian Bet Box….

To recap on where my contrarian money will be going tomorrow afternoon….

In the JCB Handicap (2.25 @ York).

  • Nick’s Contrarian Picks – LORD OBERON (14s generally)

In the Pavers Foundation Catherine Memorial Sprint Handicap (3.35 @ York).

  • Nick’s Contrarian Picks – DAVE DEXTER (16s generally)

That is my take on where the value lies – but you will no doubt have your own ideas and that’s exactly as it should be.

  • The last word….

That’s all from me for now....

No ATC Extra this weekend....

Royal Ascot starts on Tuesday. I’ll be back in your inbox on Monday afternoon with my contrarian advice and selections for the action on Day 1....

Win lose or draw – enjoy the racing this weekend....

Until next time. Stay tuned.
