It’s well known that the in-form Nigel Tinkler is a big fan of Newmarket’s July course and likes a winner at the place....
PRINCESS POWER has a good chance of getting competitive for him in tomorrow afternoon’s bet365 Handicap over the 6f trip at 3.00 – and at 16s she is undervalued and represents a bet in my book....
She turns-out on a career high mark of 87. And that’s a factor she will need to overcome....
But her last-time-out win at Doncaster 12-days ago was produced in good style, with a bit in hand and occurred despite the Slade Power filly not getting an entirely trouble-free passage through the race.
She’s in good form and gives the impression that there is more to come. And we know the track will suit. She completed a three-time at the venue last August over tomorrow afternoon’s trip and on similarly fast ground.....
The first-time visor probably played a big part in what was an improved display in the Doncaster race and that headgear is retained tomorrow....
P J McDonald comes in for the ride. I’m not sure he will have ridden too often for Tinkler. But McDonald does ride the July track well-enough. His last 25 rides produced 7 winners and he’s 6 wins from his last 18 rides in handicap events on the track. As ‘spare’ riders go, he’s not a bad one....
On the other side of the track, I also want to be with Richard Fahey’s GABRIAL THE WIRE at 14s....
He’s registered wins over 5f and at 7f and steps back to the in-between trip tomorrow after winning over the longer distance last time at Chester – and doing it well....
He’s been upped 8lbs in the ratings to 91 for that success – but he was being eased down at the end of that race and he has the look of a horse that is progressing at a rate of knots and who can progress further still....
The time before Chester he caught the eye again with a decent effort in defeat back at tomorrow’s track over the 7f trip....
The race wasn’t run to suit that day – but he did the best of those horses coming off the pace and if the big field of 20 horses goes at it tomorrow, I think that will suit Fahey’s horse down to the ground....
He’s one of a bunch of horses in the race that have been showing decent form over the last few weeks – and he’s a bigger price than I expected. He can run a big race....
The Contrarian Bet Box….To recap on where my contrarian money will be going tomorrow afternoon…. In the bet365 Handicap (3.00 @ Newmarket).
That is my take on where the value lies - but you will no doubt have your own ideas and that’s exactly as it should be. |
That’s all from me for now....
I’ll be back tomorrow with my contrarian take on Day 2 at Newmarket....
Win lose or draw - enjoy the racing....
Until next time. Stay tuned.
