Tim Easterby has won the Great St Wilfrid three times over the years – most recently last term with Staxton….
The Yorkshire handler is mustard keen to win it again and sends half-a-dozen runners tomorrow (3.45) in the hope of getting the job done….
Staxton looks to have a solid chance off a mark just 4lbs higher than last year. But he’s been well found in the market….
So too has Mr Wagyu. He’s won five times in a dozen runs this term since the beginning of May – and has risen 29lbs up the handicap in the process….
Weight stops all horses – sooner or later. And whilst he might not be at the end of his rope just yet, he can surely not be too far away….
He’s up another 8lbs for his last time out win in the consolation race for the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood – and I’m happy to oppose him at a single figure price….
The one I’m going to do it with is the horse he beat just a nose at Haydock back in July – LINCOLN PARK at the general 14s….
The 5yo – who runs for Tom Dascombe (enjoying a purple patch of form right now) – is a versatile animal whose registered wins at 6f, 7f and a mile….
That day at Haydock over tomorrow’s trip he was getting 4lb. Tomorrow he gets 11lb and is weighted to reverse the form – and then some….
You can’t solve horse races with a calculator. There’s no magic formula that says with any certainty that Horse A will beat Horse B. But at twice the price of Mr Wagyu, Lincoln Park is a decent value bet in my book….
Each-way backers take note: Sky Bet are paying 1/5 the odds on the first 7 home. William Hill are 1/5 the first 5. You can get 1/4 the first 4 generally….
Nick’s contrarian picks….To recap on where my idea of the value lies tomorrow afternoon…. In the Great St Wilfrid (3.45 @ Ripon).
That is my take on where the value lies – but you will no doubt have your own ideas and that’s exactly as it should be. |
That’s all from me for today. I’ll be back next week. Meanwhile….
