The pick of the prices on Super Saturday….

Nice to get the weekend off to a good start with a winner yesterday – Sergeant Wilko advised at 12s & 11s….

…. hope you were on….

I’ve got two more selections for this afternoon – pick them up here….

…. and tomorrow is Super Saturday….

…. which means….

…. the Bunbury Cup & the bet365 Mile at Newmarket….

…. the John Smith’s Cup at York….

…. and the Heritage Handicap at Ascot….
 
Pretty good, eh?

In the Bunbury Cup – 4.00 Newmarket….

AALTO is the bet at the general 10s….

I could make a case for a few of the others….

…. but this one’s been knocking on the door in decent handicaps….

He’s not managed to translate good performances into wins in half-a-dozen British appearances to date….

…. but it’s only a matter of time – as he showed on his most recent go at Haydock….

…. where he did all the hard yards – coming out of the pack to pick off a runaway leader….

…. only to be turned over at the death by a rival running on from even further back….

That’s four good runs from four this term….

…. and they’re turning him around quickly again – giving the iron sufficient opportunities to strike while still hot….

His races this term have been split between 7f and the mile….

…. maybe tomorrow’s stiff 7f is the specific assignment that will enable him to get the winning job done….

In the John Smith’s Cup – 3.10 York….

I’m having a swing at the 25s, 22s & 20s about PENZANCE….

He was really progressive on the AW over the winter….

….. producing four wins on the bounce….

…. before finding just Elegant Man too good on the big day at Newcastle….

For context….

…. that one – now rated 113 and running in G1 & G2 races the last twice – beat Penzance just a length….

Of course, Michael Appleby’s 4yo is rated 99 himself and needs to transfer his performances to turf….

…. but he was sent for a looksee at tomorrow’s track & trip in June….

…. and he was by no means disgraced in sixth – beaten 6.75 lengths….

…. not when you consider he’d had 77 days off and would likely be working up to tomorrow…. 

I think Penzance has been well-and-truly aimed at and prepared for this….

…. which – of course, doesn’t mean he’ll win….

…. but it does mean his price is big enough to get me having a swing….

In the bet365 Mile – 2.50 Newmarket….

LIVEANDLETLIVE is only 7s – not a typical bet for me in a 15-runner race….

…. but when I can’t see the big one….

…. I’m tending towards pragmatics….

…. and this is one of those….

He’s progressing at a rate of knots….

…. his most recent performance has been boosted by a couple of wins….

…. he’s red-hot right-now….

…. I think he’s between him and the shorter horses and – at the prices – he’s the pick….

In the Heritage Handicap – 1.45 Ascot….

WOOLHAMPTON is the pick at the general 11s….

She’s going great guns for trainer Rod Millman….

…. she likes this track….

…. she’ll enjoy coming off the pace….

…. and she’s very much a ‘now’ horse in the right kind of race….
