The pick of the prices on Day 2 at Glorious Goodwood….

Betting advice for this afternoon – Day 1 at Glorious Goodwood – was distributed yesterday. View it here….

Because I go out early – in search of the best possible prices about my selections – I’m always ahead of the game….

The flag hasn’t yet been raised on Day 1 – and I’m already thinking about Day 2….

…. which means the Coral Daily Rewards Shaker Handicap (1.50)– a race for the 3yos over the 12f trip….

Let’s get to it….

-----

In the Coral Daily Rewards Shaker – 1.50….

I like French Duke….

…. he ran a belter in the King George at Royal Ascot….

…. finishing 6/19 and beaten just 3.5 lengths….

…. despite running keen, getting hampered, racing really wide, and getting bumped….

The first-time hood can assist early doors and James Doyle is a big plus on the round course….

He makes some appeal at the 11/2….

…. but the 10s about GALLANTLY appeals just that bit more – and he’s the pick….

He finished well down the field in that same race at Ascot….

…. and was already seen-off when badly hampered in the late stages….

He’d raced wide and without cover in the earlier parts of the race….

…. and perhaps the ground was a bit too quick for him that day….

Whatever….

…. it was a disappointing performance from a horse that had looked so impressive when winning over 10f at Chester the time before….

The field was smaller that afternoon….

…. but he got more cover than he did at Ascot….

…. and he won stylishly – staying on well….

It was a step-forward performance from a well-bred horse entitled to keep on improving at a rate of knots….

…. he just didn’t back it up when stepped up to 12f at Ascot….

But connections know a thing or two….

…. and they’re persisting at the 12f trip….

…. which suggests they believe he wasn’t a non-stayer at Ascot….

…. and that he’s at the right trip tomorrow….

I reckon he’s a bit of a bargain at the price….

…. on the back of what is a mere blip (until proven otherwise)….

…. and on ground that won’t be quite so quick….

Gallantly gets to go again off a mark of 88 – 3lbs ahead of his winning mark at Chester….

…. and – on the evidence of that performance on the Roodee – he’s going to be better again than that….

He’s well-handicapped if he bounces back….

The pick of the prices….

To recap on my bets for tomorrow….

In the 1.50 @ Goodwood….

  • Pick of the prices – GALLANTLY (10s generally)

e/w terms = It’s 4 places generally….

Advised prices are correct at the point of publication – but subject to fluctuation. Shop around – you may find better quotes and terms than advised….

-----

That’s all for today….

I’ll be back tomorrow with my picks for Day 3 at Glorious Goodwood….

Win, lose or draw – enjoy the racing….

Stay tuned….
