I’m on one at Chester tomorrow….

Nearly but not quite….

In ATC today….

I’ve been reviewing the weekend action at Newmarket….

…. and I’ve got one for the Watch List….

I’m also having a crack at the CAA Stellar Handicap on tomorrow’s card at Chester….

…. the off time is 1.30….

…. and my pick of the prices is ROSENPUR at 12s….

That’s the summary….

…. you’ll find all my reasoning below – as per usual….

Oh…. and if you’re looking for the standout place terms on offer – you’ll find them in the Bet Box below….

Read on….

Before we get to my selection for Chester tomorrow….

…. I’ve got a horse to go on the Watch List – one I reckon is up to winning a decent handicap at some point this term….

Richard Spencer’s Run Boy Run was 4/13 in Saturday’s Betfred Handicap at Newmarket – beaten just 0.75 lengths….

…. backing up a solid performance on seasonal debut at Newcastle – where he lost out by a head in a valuable handicap on Championship day….

…. and another performance at Newcastle in January – when he found he just Marshman a neck too good –

It’s worth noting that Marshman is now 8lbs higher in the handicap on a mark of 110 – and showing all the signs of developing into a genuine Group horse this term….

Run Boy Run was rated 90 when he got beat by Marshman – and he’s up to 94 now….

It’s never a positive to go up the ladder as a consequence of defeat – but I reckon he’s still on a mark he can do the business off….

His most recent eye-catching performances have coincided with a drop back in trip to 6f – which seems to suit….

…. and he remains unexposed at that trip in my eyes….

His last two runs have been the 4yo’’s best yet, he’s improving, there’s more to come, and he’s a good sprinter to have onside as the season progresses….

Be aware that – in addition to going well at Newcastle on the AW – he has also shown a particular liking for the July track at Newmarket where his record reads 2211….

He’s going on to my Watch List ….

-----

I reckon ROSENPUR is overpriced at the general 12s in tomorrow’s CAA Stellar Handicap at Chester (1.30) – notwithstanding his being 3lb off at the weights….

A brief scan of his record would suggest that he’s an AW horse that hasn’t quite cut the mustard on turf….

…. whist a closer inspection would reveal that he’s very much improved of late on synthetic surfaces for a step back to the minimum trip….

…. building up to a career-best winning performance last time at Wolverhampton – for which he’s up 4lb to a career high mark of 72….
All of his best six career performances have been produced since the turn of the year over the 5f trip….

…. and whilst they’ve all been produced at Wolverhampton….

I’m interested to see what he can do at Chester….

He’s completely unexposed at the 5f trip on turf….

…. he showed he can handle the tight turns of the Roodeye when second at the track last July over 7f….

…. and from stall 2 he’s on the right part of the track at Chester to make a bold bid from the front….

The bottom line is that I think he’s priced up on the basis of turf form produced over longer trips….

…. and he could be a different proposition now that he’s found his metier at 5f….

Now, just to recap….

The pick of the prices….

To recap on my bets….

In the 1.30 @ Chester….

  • Pick of the prices – ROSENPUR (12s generally)

e/w terms = It’s 4 places generally….

Advised prices are correct at the point of publication – but subject to fluctuation. Shop around – you may find better quotes and terms than advised….

That’s all for today….
