Picks for Day 2 at Doncaster….

Picks for Day 1 here….

In ATC today….

…. I swing the bat in the handicaps on Day 2 at Doncaster….

I’m on PROMETHEAN in the 1.15 – up at 7s….

…. and I’m on LITTLE DORRIT at 10s in the 3.40….

That’s the summary….

…. you’ll find all my reasoning below – as per usual….

Oh…. and if you’re looking for the standout place terms on offer – you’ll find them in the Bet Box below….

Read on….

-----

The best prices about the most unexposed runners in tomorrow’s Mallard at Doncaster (3.00) were quickly scooped up – and swiftly disappeared – following publication of the final declarations yesterday lunchtime….

Despite the race still being more than 24-hours ahead of us – I can’t help feeling (to some small degree) that we’ve somehow missed the boat and that we’re already dealing with the scraps from a price perspective….

…. but that’s probably only because I’m aware of what the market looked like at 13.30 yesterday when the likes of Synergism, Subsequent and Duraji could all be backed at bigger points than are available now….

Looking at the market this morning, the one I want to be on at the prices is David Menuisier’s PROMETHEAN at the general 7s….

He came into the 2025 campaign as a 4yo without a win – but finally left his maiden status behind on run number 12 in a modest enough maiden in France towards the end of last month….

That was just his second go at the 12f trip, and it was the way he finished off his race that day that makes him interesting over the extra quarter mile tomorrow….

Connections have been patient with him, and he could still have loads of progression left in him at longer trips off a mark of just 80….

He’s fit, he was flying at the death in France, he gets decent lumps of weight from all the top-of-the-market players, he’s got 5lb claimer Warren Fentiman booked up top, and he strikes me as a candidate….

-----

They say that what you lose on the swings you get back on the roundabouts….

…. and Roger Varian’s LITTLE DORRIT can be got at a general 10s – with a little 11s and 12s still knocking about – for the British Stallion Studs EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap (3.40)….

…. a little bit bigger than she could be backed at yesterday lunchtime….

She’s only had three races to date with her only win coming in a novice event on the AW at Kempton in July – the form of which is less than stellar….

But she looked a different proposition in a Listed event at York last time – only finishing 5/9 but showing an excellent attitude and only getting beaten 2.75 lengths at the line….

She didn’t look out of place at all that day on her first go at 12f – despite her 66/1 price tag – and it could have been a bit better given that she was denied a clear run in the closing stages….

She’s inexperienced for sure – but that run at York was full of promise, she’s entitled to progress, and she could well be nicely treated on an opening mark of 93 in handicaps….

Now, just to recap….

The pick of the prices….

To recap on my bets….

In the 1.15 @ Doncaster….

  • Pick of the prices – PROMETHEAN (7s generally)

e/w terms = William Hill & Bresbet pay 1/4 the first 4 places. It’s 1/5 the 4 places generally….

In the 3.40 @ Doncaster….

  • Pick of the prices – LITTLE DORRIT (10s generally)

e/w terms = Sky Bet pay 5 places. It’s 4 places generally….

Advised prices are correct at the point of publication – but subject to fluctuation. Shop around – you may find better quotes and terms than advised….

That’s all for today….

I’ll be back tomorrow with picks for the action on Saturday….
