In ATC today….
…. I swing the bat in all the weekend’s biggest betting heats….
I’m on TRIBAL CHIEF & GREAT CHIEFTAIN in the 3.40 at Newmarket – up at 12s & prices between 25s & 20s respectively….
…. I’m on ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS at 13/2 in the 2.05 at Haydock….
…. and I’m on TILTED KILT at 10s in the 3.15 at Haydock….
That’s the summary….
…. you’ll find all my reasoning below – as per usual….
Oh…. and if you’re looking for the standout place terms on offer – you’ll find them in the Bet Box below….
Read on….
-----
There was no fluke about TRIBAL CHIEF’S win over Treble Tee at Goodwood last month….
…. and he’s my first pick for a more lightly contested Cambridgeshire than is usual at the general 12s….
There was only half a length between them at the post….
…. and maybe Treble Tee had a bit more to think about threading a passage up the inside rail….
…. but both hit the line well (suggesting that each will appreciate the extra furlong tomorrow)….
…. with Tribal Chief hitting it just that bit stronger in my view….
Treble Tee has won well since, of course – rising to a mark of 105 but 4lb well-in under a 4lb penalty tomorrow….
…. a state of affairs that sees him sitting atop the betting at 5s….
Fair enough – he’s very much earned that status….
…. and he’s on slightly better terms than last time when you boil it down to just weight carried….
But Tribal Chief surely has more to come….
…. he hasn’t had a race in between times….
…. he could well be drawn on a better part of the track in stall 20….
…. and he’s up at more than twice the price of the favourite….
The other one I want to back is GREAT CHIEFTAIN at 25s, 22s & 20s – who finished 5th behind Tribal Chief at Goodwood….
It was probably a disappointing performance for the punters who backed him into 5s….
…. but he was returning off a 3-month break, and he was entitled to need the race….
He’s put together a string of handicap successes since August last term….
…. but I still reckon he can go on again from his mark of 93….
He’s missed a couple of races on account of the ground….
…. but it’s turned up right for him tomorrow – he likes it fast underfoot….
…. and I see him as an off-the-radar candidate who can run a much bigger race than the 25s, 22s & 20s about him suggests….
-----
Up at Haydock ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS looks a fair bet at 13/2 to take the Ambassador Cruise Line Handicap (2.05)….
He showed loads of early speed last time in a big-field handicap at Ascot….
…. just getting outstayed at the death by Woolhampton – the reopposing favourite for tomorrow’s race….
Ascot is very much Woolhampton’s track and is no sure thing to confirm placings at Haydock….
…. where the nature of the track could well suit Christoper Mason’s horse better….
TILTED KILT is the bet at 10s for the Oddschecker Handicap (3.15)….
He’s yet to register a win but likes Haydock and very much caught the eye there last time when finishing strong in a C4 handicap after suffering an interrupted passage….
…. he was flying at the death and given another 25 yards of track he would have popped his cherry for sure….
As it is he’s gone up just a pound to 83 – a very workable mark on that last evidence….
…. and at the double-figure price he makes appeal….
